ϳԹ and the City of Cleveland Launch Information Systems Partnership
ϳԹ’s (ϳԹ) Monte Ahuja College of Business and the City of Cleveland have launched the Information Systems: Classroom to the World of Work program, a new partnership designed to create a pipeline of skilled information systems professionals to support the region’s growing technology workforce needs.
The inaugural two-year program began this spring semester and includes five students from ϳԹ’s Monte Ahuja College of Business pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems degree. Students will participate in a paid, full-time summer workforce experience with the City of Cleveland, complemented by academic coursework and co-curricular professional development activities throughout the program.
The program was designed by Anne Nelson, senior assistant dean in the ϳԹ Monte Ahuja College of Business, with support from Kim Roy Wilson, director of the City of Cleveland’s office of information technology and services.
“ϳԹ students now have a direct bridge to enter the technology workforce,” Nelson said. “They are not only learning in the classroom, they are applying their skills to real projects that make an immediate impact on the city.”
The partnership also addresses the growing demand for information technology professionals. According to the , computer and information systems manager positions are projected to grow 15.2% from 2024 to 2034.
“This program directly supports the need for skilled IT professionals in Greater Cleveland,” Wilson said. “By offering a full-time position to a graduate of this program, the City is investing in local talent and helping launch meaningful careers.”
As part of the partnership, ϳԹ and the City of Cleveland will provide a $2,000 scholarship for the summer semester to participating students. These funds will help offset tuition costs and allow students to remain enrolled over the summer, ensuring the internship counts toward their degree. ϳԹ will also host a dedicated career fair for participating students, connecting them with additional employers seeking IT talent.
“Being in and of the City of Cleveland, ϳԹ is committed to strategic partnerships that expand access, deliver real experience and prepare students for high-demand careers,” said Dr. Melissa Gruys, dean of the ϳԹ Monte Ahuja College of Business. “We are continually working to expand this model across other disciplines within the college and grow these programs with additional employers.”
